How we verify our data

Get HMO Licence publishes one page per English council. Our promise is simple: every fee, scheme and fact comes from the named council’s own page or from legislation — never a guess.

Our rules

• Every council fee and scheme is taken from that council’s own published page.
• Each council page shows the source and the date we verified it.
• If we don’t have a verified figure for a field, the page says “check with the council” — we never estimate or fill gaps with a guess.
• National figures (penalties, the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, the HMO definition) are taken from legislation.gov.uk and GOV.UK.
• We only publish a council page once we have verified data for it.

Keeping it current

Council schemes and fees change. Each page carries a “last updated” date so you can see how current it is, and we review pages as councils publish changes. If you spot something out of date, please tell us.
